India’s rural areas are mainly dependent on agriculture and animal husbandry. So, People in rural areas raise animals as a source of milk for milk production.

Every creature on earth (including humans) gives milk with the birth of its child. Each animal gives milk for its baby. But some animals give milk for a long time, And humans use their milk as food or source of milk.

The camel gives 20-30 litres of milk during the day. The amount of milk varies according to the type of camel.

Camel milk is used only for drinking and making tea in desert areas. This is not an official statement but it is said that drinking camel’s milk daily increases the height of the human body.

it are reared mainly in Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. it are useful not only for milk but also for wool. Wool from sheep is very expensive.

 So Sheep milk production in India is very low. it’s milk contributes only 1.4% to the total milk production of India.

 The Sheep is a strong animal. So,It blends easily into any climate. So it is mainly found in hilly and sown areas. it’s milk can be used in place of cow’s milk. And also very useful in the dairy industry.

Sheep’s milk is high in protein. So in the dairy industry cheese is made directly from it’s milk. Cheese like mozzarella needs to be high in protein.

Therefore, if such cheese is made directly from sheep’s milk, its yield is higher. So many dairies are thinking of buying sheep’s milk directly.

Goat is third source of milk in India.

A farmer in India does not raise goats. Only goatherds keep goats, And produces milk from it. And the number of herdsmen in India is very low. Therefore goat milk production is also low in India.

There are fewer people producing goat milk. So, Goat milk contributes about 3% of India’s total milk production. People of castes like Desai and Rabari living in Gujarat and Rajasthan raise goats for milk.

The goat gives 0.5-2 litres of milk during the day. Goat’s milk, like sheep’s milk, contains a lot of protein, so cheese is made directly from goat’s milk in the dairy industry. If we take 1 litre of goat’s milk, 100 g of cheese is made from it.

Cow’s milk is very beneficial for the human body. That is why “Rushi munio” are told to consume cow’s milk.

Cow’s milk is a major contributor to India’s total milk production. Cow milk production in India has reached 91.9 million tonnes in the year 2019.

Cows are the main source of milk. A cow gives milk twice a day. And gives 4-5 liters of milk at a time. As well as cow’s milk contains 5-6 percent fat.

While some crossbred cows give 15 to 20 liters of milk at a time. But their milk contains only 2-3% fat. As well as such hybrid cow’s milk is not drinkable. It does not contain any nutrients.

Such hybrid cow’s milk is only used in the dairy industry to make dairy products. So you should always use Indian cow’s milk for your food.

The main use of cows in India is for milk production. Therefore, farmers in India produce large quantities of cow’s milk on a large scale using modern technology and modern machinery.

And in the last decade, as milk farming has received a lot of encouragement from the government, there has been a huge increase in cow’s milk.

The production of cow’s milk was 55 million tonnes in 2010 and 91.9 million tonnes in 2019.

In addition to cow’s milk, cow dung and urine have special uses. Cow dung is used during Yajna in Hinduism. Also cow dung is used by farmers as fertilizer in their fields. And cow dung is the best manure on this earth.

Cow’s urine is used as an Ayurveda medicine for the prevention of diseases. In it the farmers make medicine and fertiliser for the crop and spray it.

Buffalo is main source of milk in India.

Although buffalo is not important in Indian culture, buffalo is very important in source of milk. The buffalo is the main source of milk. Also, since buffalo milk contains 6 to 10 percent fat, buffalo milk is very useful for the dairy industry.

Dairy products such as butter, ghee, are high in buffalo milk due to its high-fat content. So the value of her milk is also higher.

A buffalo gives milk twice a day. And gives 5 to 10 liters of milk at a time. India has produced 95.4 million tonnes of buffalo milk in the year 2019.

There are some famous breeds of buffalo like Murrah, Nagpuri, surati, bhadavari, mehsani, jafarabadi.

(1)Murrah

This buffalo is a very good breed. murrah is also known as Delhi, Kundi, and Kali. It is mainly found in Rohtak, Haryana, Punjab and Delhi.

Murrah is black in color and usually has white spots across the face, limbs, and tail. It gives 1500 to 2000 liters of milk during two weanings.

(2) Jaffrabadi

This breed of buffalo is very heavy in weight. It is mainly found in the forests of Gir, Kutch, and Jamnagar in Gujarat.

This buffalo is black in color. And its body is long and its horns are very heavy.

This breed gives 1000 to 1200 liters of milk during a period.

Because of this strong breed, male buffaloes of this breed are used for plowing in the field.

(3) Surati

These buffaloes are also known as Desikani, Gujarati, Chadotar, and Nadiadi.

This buffalo breed occurs in Kyare, Baroda, Anand, and Kheda-Nadiad districts of Gujarat.

The color of this buffalo is black or brown. And the body is well-shaped and medium-sized.

These buffaloes give very high fat (8-12 percent) milk. And it gives 1200 – 1400 liters of milk. it is good source of milk

(4) Bhadawari

This breed of buffalo is found in Agra and, in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh and Gwalior.

Its color is usually light and copper.

These buffaloes give an average of 800 to 1000 liters of milk. And it has a fat content of 6-12%.

(5) Nagpuri

buffalo is also called Altichpuri or Barri.

it is found in Nagpur, Akola, Amravati district of Maharashtra.

This buffalo has long and round horns.

The males of these buffaloes are used for heavy work.

  This buffalo gives 700 – 1200 liters of milk.

(6) Mehsana

This breed of buffalo is found in Mehsana, Sabarkantha and Banaskantha districts of Gujarat.

This breed has been obtained by cross-breeding between Surati and Murrah.

The color of this buffalo is usually marginal or gray. And his body is long. This buffalo gives 1200-1500 liters of milk during a period, and good source of milk.
