If you have not listened to the “Kun Faya Kun” song from Rockstar music Album, You may have missed the simplicity and beauty of A R Rahman Music.
He is the musical genius of Bollywood who has mastered the art of music production and composition, singing and writing the songs. He is considered, the Mozart of India.
Rahman started his career by giving songs for documentary and Indian television channels. He has won 6 National awards along with 2 Academy Awards, 2 Grammy awards, and a Bafta Award for “Slumdog Millionaire”. He was awarded Padma Bhushan for his marvelous songs in 2010.
Rahman is a world’s best selling music artist, with 150 million records in his account, His music style revolves around the use of Western music and Indian Classical Music.
What’s in it for me
Remember, the order of this list doesn’t mean that the 1st album is better than the 4th album. I am not that big enough to judge the music work of A R Rahman. I loved All these albums created by Rahman sir.
In his long career, he has given us so many soulful and mesmerizing albums. But here we will talk about albums that are close to my heart and every music and song has the charisma to attract me towards movies.
But the above mentions are my favorite and I would like to tell you about the deep sense of music used in every movie.
Songs of Tamasha depicted the life of any growing artist. The song ‘ Matargashti’ is loved by millennials. We found the deep connections in the music and lyrics of the song that closely related an artist’s life journey.
The song ‘ Agar Tum Sath Ho‘ is the most popular song among youngsters. The album includes 8 songs created by A.R.Rahman.
If you watch the song closely “Wat Wat Wat”, You will find the Montage of single songs with the different background places and stories depicting the helplessness, loneliness, and variety of emotions flowing through every bit of scene.
The Music of A R Rahman is able to make a relatable journey. A journey of rat race guy without any clue of future which is crushed under the pressure of society with his songs.
Especially the song ‘ Agar tum Sath ho’ showers with emotions and loneliness created by the empty space of someone who understands him.
Lagaan, an India’s 3rd Oscar-nominated movie with a gripping sports story before Independence and some power-packed performance by actors. But the place its music got is undefined.
A R Rahman has created magic in terms of music. If you look closely at the song “Ghanan Ghanan ”, it uses the difficult Hindi and Urdu words to recreate that pre-Independence era with some beautiful dance routines.
The pace of rhythm and tuning has been able to help us to summarize these beautiful songs. Album only has 4 songs and that too in the form of folk songs.
If you see the music of other movies that stories relate to villages and pre-Independence era, you will find some item numbers or maybe perfect dance routines.
But in reality, we as normal people don’t have too many skills to dance on something. In villages, the music is only a medium to free their inner soul.
If someday makes me bet on any album which is spectacular, I will definitely go with this Album. Rockstar songs totally help in the creation and destruction of any character. The attraction towards music has brought so many instances in his life which builds him into a musician.
In Rockstar, Jordan wanted to become a great musician but had no clue. After advice from the canteen owner, he decided to fall in love with Heer because a broken heart helps to create the music.
So he got that push but in reality, it was Heer and her love which brings the void in his life and some incidents inspire him to create some of the best music in his life.
Closely, listen to the song “Kun Faya Kun”, the song has started with the love towards God and shows the path to build his knowledge towards music. Music is the complete soul of this whole movie. If you extract the music from it, then it will be of no use.
Rang De Basanti
Leaders are not born but are made from inner anger against wrong and evil formation and foundations, to fight against the injustice.
This movie is purely appreciated and credited to bring the revolution and stand in front of injustice. Its dialogue “Koi bhi desh perfect nahi hota, use perfect banana padta hai ” is fully an eye-opener for a young mind who is busy bashing the corrupt system of India.
You may be thinking ”What is the role of the music of A R Rahman in this movie”. The music used in this movie is solely based on Indian classical and western music. It indicates the encouragement of Modern thoughts and technology with our traditional values to keep our feet on the ground.
But they don’t have any motivational songs. Why? Well, the movie has shown us the journey of youngsters and their free life which is reality. Motivation is only driven by the motive of their life purpose. They just need the right direction.
I think you might be unaware of the filmmaker “Mani Ratnam”. If you know him, then I don’t think you need any introduction to his brilliant and intelligent filmography.
Bombay, a 1995 musical romantic movie directed by Mani Ratnam. The movie is about the love story of a Muslim girl and a Hindu Boy.
I don’t think I have that much intelligence to write about the score and music of this movie. If you are really serious about understanding the music of this movie, Go watch the video “How A R Rahman Scored Bombay” created by Vinit Masram from Filmmaking YouTube channel “Cinema Beyond Entertainment” (Read this)
He has described the whole process and intelligence of A R Rahman sir behind the music of this movie. You can say that music has his pure soul and he has put too much effort into creating this masterpiece.
Well, this is the end of a short journey. I know the journey is too small to admire and consider. Still, there are too few words to write about the legacy and brilliance of Rahman sir.
He will always remain considered as the Wizard of music until the generations to come. We all love the music of Rahman sir. His music is getting remixed which is totally absurd and an insult towards a great artist in recent times.
A humble request to everyone, please only listen to the original Music. I want you to promote this culture around you. I will be grateful to me if I am able to change anyone.
So, if you like this article. Please share with your friend and family.
