Artificial Intelligence Meaning|2020|AI vs ML|Ultimate Guide

Artificial intelligence is a field of computer science that enables a computer or a computer program to think and act likes a human without the physical presence of human beings.

Have you ever watched Iron man’s movie? Then definitely you have been fascinated after seeing Jarvis. Certainly you must have wondered how Jarvis worked. That’s because of artificial intelligence.

We always wondered that we will have a house that will automatically open its gate when we enter in. we would say “lights on” and lights will get on. we will have a car that will take to my destination automatically. Certainly this all is possible with the help of AI.

What’s in it for me?

What is Artificial Intelligence?

What is AI image

The official idea and definition of artificial intelligence was first coined by Jay McCartney in 1955 at the Dartmouth conference but it got limelight in the 21st century.

Every aspect of learning or any other feature of intelligence can in principle be so precisely described that a machine can be made to stimulate it. An attempt will be made to find how to make machines use language, form abstractions and concepts, solve kinds of problems now reserved for humans, and improve themselves.”

The original 7 aspects of A.I. (1955)

  1. Simulating higher functions of the human brains
  2. Programming a computer to use general language
  3. Arranging hypothetical neurons in a manner so that they can form concepts
  4. A way to determine and measure complexity
  5. Self-improvement
  6. Abstraction: defined as the quality of dealing with ideas rather than events.
  7. Randomness and creativity

The main aim of AI is to develop systems that function intelligently and independently like humans. Hence, it helps to save manpower and time. Moreover if developed properly it has unlimited power.

Machines can do tasks more accurately and in less time as compared to humans. Moreover, they can be employed in the manufacturing sector which will improve the quality of manufacturing.

In 2020 we have 44 zettabytes (44 trillion gigabytes) data further it is expected that in 2025 we will have 175 zettabytes (175 trillion gigabytes) as per source. Thus, the amount of data being produced each day is growing exponentially.

So it is very important to analyze these data to improve our decision making but it is not possible for us to do so but with AI we can constantly keep an eye on this data.

Human tends to make mistake but machines rarely do so. Since AI learns itself it is expected that AI will take a large leap in the coming few decades unleashing its enormous opportunity.

What is Machine Learning?

Machine learning or ML term was first coined in 1959 by Arthur Samuel. It is a subset of AI. some consider ai and ml are the same terms while some consider they are different terms. but reality is AI is incomplete without ML. Hence, ML is a subset of AI.

Humans train the machines from past data and machines analyze it and perform faster than humans this process is machine learning.

Machine Learning image

For example: We all have the latest so-called “AI camera” in our smartphones. So, if we try to click a photo of a mango AI camera instantly recognize the fruit and say it’s a mango. But how it does so?

That’s because of ML and not AI. In other words, we have already shown the sensor many photos of mango in different conditions. So he now understands that this fruit is a mango.

In the above example we saw initially we have trained machines by displaying various photographs of Mango and therefore machines learned and acted the same. Thus we can say ML is incomplete without humans. Therefore, it improves automatically with experience.

Difference between AI and ML?

It is considered ai and ml are interchangeable terms but it is not so. AI is a very vast field of computer science but ML is a very significant subset of AI.

Here are some differences between AI and ML.

Machine LearningMachine Learning
It was first developed by Jay McCartney in 1955It was first developed by Arthur Samuel in 1959
It refers to the system that can think and act like humans which is good in many fields. For eg: a system that is good in many games like chess, cricket, football, etc.It refers to a system that is master in only on field. For eg: a system that can only play chess and is master of it
It gathers information from many sources like past data, own experience, data from different sources, by observing and by performing new thingsIt gathers information only from past experience and past feeded data.
It is a very broad field. It is a narrow field as compared to AI and is a subset of it.

Let us understand the difference between AI and ML with an example:-

For example: Suppose there are 2 systems. System A runs on AI on the other hand System B runs on ML.

Now we have trained both systems on how to play professional cricket. Further we ask them to play gully cricket with slightly different rules

AI VS ML IMAGE

System B will get confused as he will think it is a different game and he will not be able to play. So ML can’t perform without complete knowledge of the field.

AI-Vs-ML IMAGE

But System A will try to learn by observing the game and will soon able to play it without the need of humans. So AI can learn new things without the need of prior knowledge

Examples of AI in our daily life

HEALTHCARE

Artificial-Intelligence-In-Healthcare Image

Advancement in the healthcare field with the help of AI has helped to increase the recovery rate and decrease the mortality rate. Therefore, Doctors equip their clinics and hospitals with the latest machines that have an inbuilt AI system.

For example: X-Ray machines and CT scan machines with an inbuilt program can now examine the reports automatically and find even minor problems that are missed by the human eye. It also reduced the report generation time with increased accuracy.

Nowadays smartphones have inbuilt AI programs to enhance the user experience.

Cameras in the Smartphone are packed with different modes like AI beauty which adjust the contrast, white balance, brightness, etc. according to the scene to get better photos. Therefore, it increased the quality of the image.

Even the voice assistant in our phones like Siri, Google assistant are itself an example which analyze your query and display the best data according to them

Artificial Intelligence future

AI has recently got limelight because earlier we didn’t have enough and accurate data. But today we have got a large amount of accurate data which helps us to develop advanced versions of AI.

But till now we haven’t unleashed the ultimate power of AI.  In other words, it is a long journey and we are at its initial stage. Moreover, today every company is trying to introduce AI in their company working to increase their efficiency.

To sum up, in the future every company will have some type of AI technology in its operations so as to remain in the competition. No doubt a lot of unemployment will be created due to this but new fields like computer science and robotics will provide jobs to many people.

Still many jobs that require human skills like data scientists, scientists, marketing will not be affected as it only requires the presence of human beings. So we need to develop more and more skills as only average people will be left behind.

CONCLUSION

Artificial-Intelligence-Exponential-Growth Image

Certainly, AI is the future. Therefore, every person needs to change their lives by accepting technology as “change is the way of life”. Moreover, there are many jobs are there which can be affected by the computer system. However, if we develop our skills then we are safe in this advanced technology era.

Therefore, every business irrespective of small or big should involve technology in their day to day lives. Students should try to develop their career in technology so that they can also become a part of the developing technology.

Similarly schools should update their curriculum to teach students about AI. But we need to understand every coin has 2 faces. We should not make an AI system that is a threat to humanity.

TECHNOLOGY IS A GOOD SLAVE BUT POOR MASTER”

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’S)

Is artificial intelligence and machine learning the same terms?

No, they both are different fields of computer science but ML is a subset of AI

When artificial intelligence started in India?

AI started in India initially by Professor H.N. Mahabala in the 1960s .
However, it gained importance in 1986 when the Government of India launched the Knowledge-Based Computing Systems (KBCS) program in conjunction with the United Nations Development Program

Which computer language is required to develop an AI program?

Majorly python language is used to write AI and ML codes.

Can artificial intelligence be creative?

No, as artificial intelligence doesn’t have emotions and it only performs on information stored. For being creative you must think out of the box that’s why it can’t be creative.

Will artificial intelligence replace humans in future?

Yes, artificial intelligence can replace humans from various jobs that don’t require a creative aspect.

Can artificial intelligence be used to predict the stock market?

Yes it can be used to predict the stock market as it can use past data and analyze the company’s performance.

But its prediction can be wrong as no one is always correct in the stock market.

Can artificial intelligence destroy the mankind and rule on us?

Yes, there is a possibility that if AI is not controlled properly and if humans lose their command on these systems then they will rule us.

Stephen Hawking which was one of the greatest minds in the development of artificial intelligence quoted that artificial Intelligence can be human’s greatest invention or the worst invention. Either it will change the world completely or it will destroy it.
