I have seen the Australian team playing like a boss since my childhood. The Australian cricket team is one of the oldest cricket playing team after England. So, at the starting of their cricketing journey Australian cricket team defines only men’s cricket team.

Australian cricket is also known as the Aussies. And also they are known as the Kangaroo team.

Australia played its first-ever test match in 1877. During that time the craze of cricket is not that high. Now this team has got the status of playing international cricket matches in all formats e.g.(Test, ODI, and T-20). Also, they played their first-ever ODI match in1970-1971 against England and played their first T-20 match in 2004-2005 session against New-Zeland.

Also, the Australian cricket board conducting many domestic matches like BBL(Big Bash League), Sheffield Shield, etc for the development of cricket in their country.

Australian cricket team rules the cricket industry since after their first world cup win. So. they are the no. 1 team according to the most number of wins and winning percentage in the format of Test and ODIs.

The Australian cricket team is the only team who have got the tag of a hat-trick of world cup wins I.e. (1999,2003,2007) and also hey won the most number of world cup title 5 times I.e in (1987,1999,2003,2007,2015). Above all, Australia crosses the milestone of 1000 international matches wins in 12th Jan 2019.

HISTORY

Early History

1930 Australian Team

The cricket in Australia begins nearly around 215 years ago. On record, the first match that have Australia played was held in 1803 in Sydney( Today’s SCG i.e. Sydney cricket ground).

In 1861 the first time the England cricket team tour to Australia. This tour was famous for the attendance of a huge number of the spectator so the cricketers and promoters got a very decent amount of profit.

By considering the profit margin a second tour by England to Australia was held in 1863 and was even more successful than last.

Basically, in 1968, for the first time Australian cricket team tour to England. The team was captained by Charles Lawrence.

After that Charles Lawrence team played a total of 47 matches, winning 14, drawing 19 and losing 14. And further an English team tour to Australia in 1873.

Later in 1877 on a tour to Australia by the English team, the first official test match was played by the Australian Cricket Team in Melbourne Cricket ground(I.e. MCG). And the Australian cricket team won the match by 45 runs by the help of Charles Bannerman’s 165 runs.

During the mid-1890s is called the golden era of Australian cricket. Because this was the time where some of the all-time greatest Australian cricket players were representing the Australian team. The era saw the evolution of Australian cricket due to the players like Monty Noble, Clem Hill, Victor Trumper.  

MEMORABLE ERA

During world war-I Australian cricket was paused for approx. 8 years. After that in later 1921 test cricket resumed for Australia.

Then came the Bradman Era, the memorable era which changes the entire myth on Australian cricket. Then this is the era where he was representing the Australian team. Above all, He played a lot of match-winning performances with his bat. Some unbreakable records, especially the highest individual run by a cricketer at that time and many more.

Eventually, in 1975, the cricket world cup begins. So the world cup trophy is every team’s dream. For the purpose of the trophy, the Australian Cricket Team did a great job in the world cup tournament. Finally, they became the runners up of that tournament in that opening season.

History after 1986

Till 1986 Australia was a team who can pull your leg to won tournament like today’s west indies team. But neither had the capability to won a tournament like the world cup.

So, after 1986 Australian team made a tour to India where they played a real brand of cricket. And above all, they showed that they have the capacity to win the next cricket world cup that would be going to happen in India in 1987.

In the whole world cup tour, they played a disciplined brand of cricket and they showed that they were not only the tournament participator but also have the capability to win the world cup. And finally, they defeated England in their final match and register their first world cup win in Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

During the 90’s decade, Australian cricket saw some of the greatest legends like Glenn McGrath, Steve Waugh, David Boon, the most successful leg-spin bowler in the history of cricket Shane Warne debut in the year 1991.  And also, one of the world’s best wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist, Australia’s most successful captain Ricky Ponting, Mathew Haden, etc..  

These players indeed dominate the cricket industry. And also They always put their best to make Australia the point table topper. During that time the Australian team was the no.1 team in all formats. They played not only a destructive attacking game but also having a winning mindset.

As I mentioned before Shane Warne the finest leg spinner have record-breaking stats in all formats I.e. ( Above all he took 708 wickets in 145 test matches having best figure 8/71 and took 293 wickets in 194 ODIs having best figure 5/33).

Similarly, Rickey Ponting, who is the world’s most successful cricket captain has scored the most number of international centuries for Australia. So, under the roof of Rickey Ponting Australian team provides many great players to the world cricket. For example Adam Gilchrist, Brett Lee, Brad Hogg, Andrew Symonds, Nathan Bracken, Michael Hussey, Glenn McGrath, Shane Watson, Mitchell Johnson, Michael Clarke etc..

Andrew McDonald is their assistant coach (Who is also the former test player of Australian team).

And they have also George Bailey the former Australian captain as their national selector designation. And they’re also a team who handle the team social sites, accounts, and finance.

In ODIs, the jersey colour and design vary according to time but most recently the players wear their base colour jersey i.e. golden yellow as their main colour and green as their secondary colour.

And also Printed sponsors name, cricket Australia logo and AUSTRALIA text on their jersey. For example, the sponsors are Alinta, Asics, Domain, Commonwealth Bank etc. They also wear a cap having base colour yellow and secondary colour green on it.

Test

Like all the countries Australians have the same jersey colour in test i.e. majorly white colour. But, in winter they wear a ‘V’ neck sweater or you can say vest having black and golden border. Nowadays sponsors name are also printed on their test jersey. And also they wear a white cap along with white trousers.

T20

Like ODIs, the jersey colour and design are also varies according to the time but most recently the jersey colour is black as the primary colour and there some printing of sponsors name, teams logo. Also, they wear a black cap along with black trousers.

CRICKET GROUNDS

MELBOURNE CRICKET GROUND

Indeed, this is the second-largest cricket stadium in the world after Motera. Basically it is a sports ground different sports are played according to the seasons.

So, The first cricket match was played on 30th September 1854 at this venue. Also, the first-ever test match was played at this venue is in 1877.

It has the sitting capacity of 1,00,024 people. But, in a cricket match, the highest attendance at this venue was 93,013 which was the final match of 2015 world cup played between Australia and New-Zeland.

PERTH STADIUM

This stadium is also a multi-purpose stadium. But, Cricket is going to happen in the month of November to February. And, it has a capacity of around 60,000 people. This is also the home ground of Perth Scorchers ( A BBL team).

Also, there are some other international grounds in Australia they are Sydney cricket ground, Adelaide Oval, Brisbane cricket ground etc..

Test

The Australian cricket team has the record of winning highest test matches i.e. 350 matches at a winning percentage of 47%, which is most by any team South Africa is second in that list that is 37% of winning rate.

Also, Australia registers the largest victory in test cricket in 2002 against South Africa. While, they defeated South Africa by 360 runs.

This team took 100 wickets in a Test series that is 2013-2014 Ashes series on the offer of 5-0 clean sweeping to England. So, the Australian cricket team dominant on Ashes series.

ODI

Meanwhile, Australia played 943 ODI matches having a winning percentage of 63.64%. Indeed this is the highest winning percentage by any team.

Further, this team register a hat-trick of world cup wins in the year of 1999,2003 and 2007. And also register the tag of most numbers of world cup win i.e. five times.

In conclusion, Australia is one of the strongest who ruled cricket for some decade. During their cricketing era, they have registered the world cup 5 times to their name. As a result of this, they have ended having a hat-trick of world cup wins. This team also got champions trophy title for 2 times. Especially, in terms of a Test match, you can say they are one of the strongest sides to defeat. And lastly, I must add they defeated England in the first-ever official Test match.
