WHO IS SACHIN TENDULKAR?

Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar is a retired international cricketer from India. Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is regarded as the god of cricket. He is the person because of whom hundreds of thousands of people started watching cricket. He is awarded with India’s highest civilian honor of Bharat Ratna in 2014.

Tendulkar is the first cricketer of the world to score 200 runs in a one day international (ODI). He is the first and only person to have a century of centuries (he scored 100 runs 100 times). Despite this much success, he is very much down to earth person.

EARLY LIFE OF SACHIN TENDULKAR

Sachin Tendulkar was born on 24 April 1973 in Dadar, Bombay. His father’s name was Ramesh Tendulkar. He was a famous novelist and poet. Sachin was a child to his father’s second wife Rajini.

In his childhood, he was a very mischievous child and to stop his mischievous and divert his attention. His elder brother Ajit Tendulkar introduced him to cricket in 1984. He played good cricket as a child so he was introduced to Ramakant Achrekar. He was a famous coach of cricket who used to live in Dadar itself.

At the time of introduction to coach Achrekar he was not able to play.

But when the coach acted like he was not watching him then he started playing good.

Coach Achrekar was impressed by his talent. To train him and make him perform better coach Achrekar used to put one rupee on the stump. And told him that if he does not get out then he will get the coin.

DOMESTIC CAREER OF SACHIN TENDULKAR

Carrer of Sachin Tendulkar started with the Ranji trophy when he was selected for Bombay on 14 November 1987 at the age of 14.

Sachin is the first and only cricketer to create centuries in his first match for all big trophies of domestic cricket (Ranji trophy, Duleep trophy, and Irani trophy). Sachin created the highest run in the domestic session.

He was picked to play for the national team when he was seen easily defending himself from India’s best bowler of that time in nets of Wankhede stadium.

Once Sachin was invited by sir Donald Bradman, to his birthday party and compared Sachin to himself.

INTERNATIONAL CAREER OF SACHIN TENDULKAR

Raj Singh Dungarpur was the person responsible for the selection of Sachin in the Indian team for India’s tour of Pakistan in 1989. This was the test debut match of him at the age of 16 in November 1989 in Karachi, Pakistan.

In that match, he scored only 15 runs and got bowled out by Waqar Younis who also made his debut in that match. In the fourth test match against Pakistan, he was hit on the nose by bouncer bowl from Younis, he was told to leave match but he kept playing.

During 1991-92 tour of Australia Sachin scored 148 in the third test at Sydney which made him the youngest player to score a century against Australia. He then scored 114 in the last test match at Perth, Australia.

During an interview when asked about his favorite innings, Sachin always recalls this Perth innings as the pitch of Perth was very fast and bouncing moreover he was bowled by Australia’s best bowlers of the time.

On 9th September 1994, Sachin made his first ODI century against Australia but it took him 78 ODIs to score his first century.

He was the highest run-scorer in the 1996 world cup.

 He scored three consecutive centuries in 1998 against Australia. There was the hype of clash between the world’s leading batsmen, Sachin Tendulkar versus the world’s best spin bowler, Shane Warne. Sachin made 204 runs as Shane Warne lose 111 runs in 16 overs.

After this test match victory, Sachin made two more consecutive centuries in a triangular cricket tournament in Sharjah. These both centuries were known as desert storm innings.

Sachin was playing cricket world cup of 1999 when his father died, he left a match against Zimbabwe to attend final rituals. Then he came back to play and scored 140 runs against Kenya, he dedicated that century to his father.

CONTINUING SAME FORM

He continued his good form in 2001 and 2002. Sachin was away from cricket for some time due to tennis elbow injury, he returned against new Zealand but got out only at 1 run. but Sachin made his comeback in 2003 world cup in which he scored 673 runs in eleven matches although India lost in the final match but he got man of the tournament award and he got golden bat award.

Tendulkar scored 241 not out against Australia in the last test match which gave India an unbeatable score of 705 on seven wickets.

Sachin scored 194 runs against Pakistan in Multan at that time Rahul Dravid was captain and it was a controversial decision of him that he declared innings when Tendulkar was just six runs away from the double century.

However, Sachin handled that matter maturely and didn’t let things get worse ahead.

From 2005 to 2007 Sachin was in lows and highs some time he performed badly but some time like a god. Tendulkar was the only Indian batsmen to perform well in the DLF cup in Malaysia in 2006.

2007 was the black year for Indian cricket because of Indian team coach Gregg Chappell, everyone knows about the controversy between Saurav Ganguly and Chappell.

He pushed Sachin to bat at lower positions and he ruined the career of Irfan Pathan by making him doing batting instead of bowling while he was a good bowler. He was the one responsible for making India lose the world cup of 2007.

GETTING AHEAD

After this Gregg Chappell was removed and India got an amazing coach. Gary Kirsten came and the performance of Sachin started getting more better. Sachin was the highest run-scorer with 493 runs in four tests of Border Gavaskar trophy.

He was India’s highest run-scorer in World cup 2011 with 482 runs including two centuries with an average of 53.55. India won the tournament by defeating Sri Lanka in the finals. As it was clear that it was his last world cup, the team did its best to give this world cup as a gift to this legend. After winning players lifted Sachin on shoulders and made rounds of the stadium.

Sachin Tendulkar made his most awaited 100th international century on 16th march 2012 against Bangladesh in the Asia cup.

After his poor play in 2012 against England, Sachin announced his retirement from one-day internationals on 23rd December 2012.

On 10 October 2013, Sachin announced that he will take retirement from all forms of cricket including the Indian premier league. Sachin was captain of the Mumbai Indians franchise in IPL.

He wanted to play the last match on his home ground so, on his request BCCI( board of control for cricket in India) made shifted the last match to Wankhede stadium of Mumbai. He scored 74 runs in his last match, he fell short of 79 runs to complete his 16000 test runs.

LIFE OF SACHIN TENDULKAR OUTSIDE CRICKET

Sachin Tendulkar married Anjali Mehta on 24th may 1995.they have a daughter, Sara Tendulkar, and a son, Arjun Tendulkar who is also an emerging teenage bowler.

As per reports currently, Sachin Tendulkar has a nearly average net worth of 120 million dollars. He was on 51st position in 2013 in Forbes’s highest-earning athletes of the world.

Sachin Tendulkar was the first non-retired sportsperson to be nominated as Rajya Sabha Member.

He released his autobiography, playing It my way on 6th November 2014.

Sachin Tendulkar played himself his character in a film based on him, “ Sachin: A Billion Dreams”.
