WHO IS VIRAT KOHLI ?

Virat Kohli is an Indian cricketer and is currently considered one of the best cricketers in the world. Currently he is the captain of the Indian cricket team across all formats.

He is the first player in cricket history to win all three ICC(International cricket council) awards in the same year in 2018 – ICC One Day International (ODI) player of the year, ICC test player of the year, and ICC player of the year.

He has the highest winning percentage as captain in Indian history in both tests and ODIs. Virat is also known as King Kohli and Run Machine.

EARLY LIFE AND FAMILY OF VIRAT KOHLI

He was born on 5 November 1988 in Delhi. His nickname is chikoo. He belongs to a Punjabi family. His father’s name is Prem Kohli, he was the biggest supporter of him in his family since his childhood, he used to bowl to Virat when he was a three-year-old small child.his father was a criminal lawyer and his mother Saroj Kohli is the housewife. He has an elder brother Vikas Kohli and an elder sister Bhavna Kohli.

On the suggestion of neighbors that Virat should be trained by professionals, his father took him to west Delhi cricket academy and Virat was nine years old at that time. In the academy he was trained by Rajkumar Sharma. Sharma says that Virat was filled with natural talent and he was impressed with his attitude and dedication towards the game.

He has gone through a lot in his life such as losing his father at a young age, family business not going well, not having his own house to live. His father died on 18 December 2006 because of heart stroke.

EDUCATION OF VIRAT KOHLI

He did his early schooling in Vishal Bharati public school, Uttam Nagar. In ninth grade, he took admission in Paschim Vihar. Kohli was good in studies as well, his teachers regarded him as a bright and alert child.

EARLY CAREER OF VIRAT KOHLI

Kohli played first in Polly umrigar trophy for Delhi under 15 team in October 2002. He was the highest run-scorer for his team and next year he became captain of the team for Polly umrigar trophy.

In 2004 he played Vijay merchant trophy for Delhi under 17 team. Next year his team won the Vijay merchant trophy with Kohli being the highest run-scorer.

Kohli was selected in India’s under 19 team in July 2006 for playing in England. Kohli played his first-class debut match at the age of 18 in November 2006 for Delhi against Karnataka. He came to media attention when he scored 90 against Karnataka on the day of his father’s death.

He made his domestic t20 debut in April 2007 in the interstate T20 championship and ended as the highest run-scorer for his team.

In March 2008 India won ICC under 19 cricket world cup held in Malaysia under the captaincy of him. he was third-highest run-scorer in the tournament. His century against west indies was called “the innings of the tournament”.

After under 19 world cup win he was picked up by royal challengers Bangalore team for Indian Premier League.

INTERNATIONAL CAREER OF VIRAT KOHLI

Virat Kohli made his international debut at the age of 19, he was included in the Indian ODI team for the tour of Sri Lanka. He was also picked up for Champions trophy in Pakistan but it was postponed to 2009. In September 2008 he played Nisaar Trophy for Delhi and was the top scorer for Delhi.

He was also the highest run-scorer for India in Emerging Players tournament held in Australia in July 2009. Kohli says this tournament was the turning point of his career as the chairman of the national selection committee was highly impressed with Kohli.

Virat Kohli won his first man of the match award for his successful run chase against west indies in 2009. He scored his first ODI century in the fourth match of ODI series against Srilanka, Gautam Gambhir made his personal best of 150 runs in that match and gave up his man of the match award to Virat Kohli.

He scored his second ODI century against Bangladesh in January 2010. After Sachin Tendulkar and Suresh Raina, he was the third Indian to score two ODI centuries before the age of 22. During the tri-series against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in May 2010 he became the fastest Indian to score a thousand runs in ODI. In the series, he made his T20 debut against Zimbabwe.

Kohli scored his fifth ODI century against Bangladesh during his World Cup 2011 debut, he was the first Indian to score a century in his world cup debut. He made his contribution of 35 runs in the final match of the world cup, which India won after a long time since 1983.

Kohli made his test debut against west indies in July 2011.

He was made vice-captain for the 2012 Asia Cup during which he scored his best of 183 runs against Pakistan, he helped India to chase the highest runs of 330 and his score was the highest individual score in Asia cup history.

He was named in ICC ‘team of the tournament ‘ for his good performance in the 2012 ICC T20 world cup. Again he was named in ICC ‘team of tournament’ for 2013 ICC champions trophy which India won.

He made his first century as a captain against West Indies in 2013.

During a 7 match series against Australia in 2013, in the second match, he made the fastest century by an Indian, during the 6th match he again hitted a century and became the fastest player in the world to hit 17 ODI centuries.

During a match against west indies, he matched Vivian Richards to score the fastest 5000 runs in ODIs.

In 2013 during a test match against South Africa he made a century in Johannesburg, he became the first Indian player to hit a century at that place after 1998.

He was named as vice-captain in 2014 for the ICC t20 world cup. During November 2014 he became the fastest scorer to reach 6000 runs during series, in the series he totaled more than 1000 runs becoming second Indian to do so.

GETTING BETTER

He performed well in the 2015 ICC world cup but India lost it. Kohli maintained his performance in the 2016 ICC t20 world cup. Kohli made his first double century against wast indies in a test match. He scored his 2nd,3rd, and 4th double centuries in consecutive series against New Zealand, England and Bangladesh. Kohli became the first player ever to do so.

He was made captain for 2017 ICC champions trophy which India lost but Kohli was included in ‘team of the tournament’.

Virat scored two double centuries in series against Sri Lanka and became the first captain to score 6 double centuries. In 2017 he scored 2818 runs which were highest by an Indian.

In 2018 he became fastest to score 10000 ODI runs. He became the first Indian to score 3 consecutive double centuries in October 2018. At the 2019 ICC world cup, he was captain of team India and he became fastest to score 11000 runs in ODIs. In October 2019  he hit another double century, first Indian cricketer to do so.

Virat Kohli is the part of the royal challengers Bangalore team since he joined it in 2008, he is the only player in the team retained so long. He became vice-captain of team in 2011 and captain in 2013.

For the 2010 session he was the highest run-scorer for his team. In the 2016 session Virat Kohli made a record of highest run-scoring in a single session.

In October 2016 during the launch of his biography ‘Driven: The Virat Kohli story,’ he stated that he will be a permanent member of the Royal challengers Bangalore team.
