How India Became the Number 1 Producer of Milk in the World?

Today, India is a world leader in milk production. milk in India with an increase of 4.5 percent per annul.

Milk is the essential food of human life. Milk contains all the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. What the human body needs. Milk has been the staple food of human beings since ancient times. In modern times, humans use lots of milk products. And it should be done because milk is a nutritious food.

Our country India has been producing milk since ancient times. And right now it has undergone a very big revolution. India’s rural areas are largely dependent on agriculture and animal husbandry. And the government has done a good job of promoting it. Because to provide food and food to a very large population of India.

After independence, Sardar Vallabhbhai met Dr. Kurien in Anand and established Amul Dairy to promote animal husbandry. This was followed by a major revolution in milk in India. Which is Known as the White Revolution.

Thus milk has been produced in India for years. But it was only produced in rural areas and sold in nearby urban areas. There was no infrastructure to sell milk products in India.

But after independence, due to the efforts of Sardar Vallabhbhai, the dairy industry started and animal husbandry got a lot of momentum.

We can see the increase in milk production year after year from the information given in the table.

Production was 55.6 million tonnes in 1990-91 which has increased to 194.2 million tonnes today in 2018-19.

India is a world leader in milk . India produces very large quantities of milk. And its milk production capacity can be seen from the fact that the country after India produces only 99.1 million tonnes of milk while India produces 194.2 million tonnes of milk.

India is the largest producer, followed by the United States with 99.1 million tonnes of milk. And third is Pakistan with 46.3 million tonnes of milk .          

India has the first rank in the world for milk . India produces  22% percent of world production.

Every living thing on earth gives milk to its baby. But some animals give milk for a long time. And it uses milk as human food.

Animals like camels, sheep, goats, cows, and buffaloes are used for animal husbandry.

They are bred to produce large quantities of milk.

Goat, cow and buffalo milk are the major contributors to India’s total milk.

In the year 2018-19, India’s total milk was 194.2 million tonnes, with 6.7 million tonnes of goat’s milk, 91.9 million tonnes of cow’s milk, and 95.4 million tonnes of buffalo’s milk.

(4) Milk production of India by state

In India, state governments are giving very good impetus to increase milk in their state. Because it is becoming very difficult to supply milk against the growing population of India.

In many states, production of milk has increased significantly as the environment is conducive to animal husbandry, as well as adequate equipment for animal husbandry.

State governments have started developing the dairy industry on a large scale to boost animal husbandry. So that the milk produced by the farmer can get a fair price and the milk can be packed well and sent to the urban area.

A state like Gujarat has set up co-operative dairies in every district under the Amul brand. Amul is currently the largest dairy in Asia.

And so the production of milk in Gujarat is increasing year by year.

In milk production, Uttar Pradesh ranks first with 32009 metric tons, But there is no industrial structure.

Then Rajasthan ranks second with 24710 metric tan. And Madhya Pradesh ranks third with 16211 metric tan.
