Time management-11 Effective Ways to Develop It

Time management is a skill by which we can plan how to take advantage of every single day, every hour & every single minute to achieve any goals we set. If we don’t know how to use time management correctly then we will get found procrastinating or simply wasting our precious time & we don’t have any control over our actions.

The most important time management skill is-

  1. Setting goals
  2. Scheduling & Prioritizing tasks
  3. Cut out all the distractions
  4. Monitoring our time spending habit
  5. Taking break

Each & every being on this planet, whether it’s rich or the poor everyone has 24hrs in a day. Some people cry over the fact that if they had one more hrs then he could have completed that project & on the other side some people completed that project & have the time to chill also. The only difference creator between those two sides is time management. Those who know how to manage their time effectively, they will achieve great success for sure.

Below there are simple & yet effective ways from which you can learn the skill of time management

1. Waking up early:

Waking up early is the answer to many questions & it’s the foremost time management skill.

When you wake up early, your brain works at peak level & you can use this time to prioritize your whole day routine, exercise, meditate & most importantly use these peak hours to deal with that complex task. By doing this you will get productive & time management will get easier.

2. Plan your day:

You should prepare your daily plans before going to sleep. Because of the plan that you make you won’t feel unprepared when that day unravels itself. And always strive to complete that task which you have planned out the day before.

3. Set S.M.A.R.T goals:

There’s a correct & proper way to set your goals also, even I didn’t know it till last year. And that way is called Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound (S.M.A.R.T). By setting goals according to it is pretty unique & effective.

Let’s look at the example of how to set goals by using S.M.A.R.T:

Let’s say you wanted to get a job of Software engineer within two months after completing your B.Tech degree;

Specific You have clearly set the goal of getting a job of software engineer post.

Measurable It can be measured by the numbers of applications, interviews & job offers.

Achievable You will have the required degree for the job.

Relevant You have planned to get a job in I.T industry after getting a B.Tech degree.

Time-Based- You have set a specific timeline to achieve your goal within two months after getting a B.Tech degree.

You can apply this technique to achieve any goal.

4. Break down your task:

If you have an insurmountable task in front of you & if you try to do it as a whole,  you’ll get exhausted by thinking about the fact is that task is too big, how I’m going to complete it & later on you’ll start to procrastinate.

So the best way to deal with that big chunk of the task is to divide it into smaller tasks, in this way you’ll be able to complete your task without fuss.

5. Find your focus time:

We all have that specific hours of time in which we have that laser focus & unshakable attention, which takes our productivity to the next level, generally, it’s to be found in the morning hours. But it may differ in your case. Some of you might think, I didn’t feel this any kind of feeling, well it’s there you just need to observe more, you’ll get it.

6. Mark your deadline:

Mark the deadline of your task in your calendar, or write it in your diary. Make a cross each day as the day progresses & if you don’t have a physical calendar use the phone’s calendar & keep writing your progress of your task.

7. Know your Circadian rhythm:

According to Circadian rhythm, our body operates 24hrs a day even when you sleep & we have this 24 hours biological cycle which will react differently to physical & mental challenges at every specific period of the day.

Morning hours

Getting up early itself has so many health benefits but it’s also good for your cognitive ability as well. In your whole day you won’t find that alertness which you feel in the morning. After waking up, the next 3-4 hrs is considered to be brain will operate at its peak & you must take advantage of it by working which is the hardest task on your To-do-list, any complex problem, the hardest chapter which you didn’t understand earlier properly etc.

Afternoon hours

This period of time is ideal for doing physical activities & working with the team on some ideas. You can use this time to schedule meetings, sharing & working on ideas together.

And at this period of time, your body is also at its peak which requires physical exertion, those who do sales or real state workers are the career which demands you to be physically fit & at the same time good with their communication skills.

And if your profession doesn’t require any physical activity then just take a walk at your lunch hours it will help to work efficiently.

Evening hours-

This period of time is ideal for strategic thinking. You’re likely to think more creative in the evening hours until you sleep. This is the best time to make & set future goals or what steps you need to take for the career growth.

As this period favors creativity, you can utilize this time by doing artistic things like painting, dancing, playing instruments, or dancing as well.

8. Don’t multi-task:

We tend to think that doing multi-tasking we are getting things done early than everyone. But that’s wrong, by doing multi-tasking your focus gets split between the multiple tasks & you’re not being able to put your 100% in any task.

So instead of doing multi-tasking focus on one task at a time with all focus & you’ll get productive results. And if you have to complete many tasks at the same deadline, prioritize.

9. Get rid of distraction:

Social-media, messages, phone calls, emails, or any distractions, shut it off while you are working on high priority tasks. You can complete those tasks in an hour but due to that distraction now that same task will get done in 3hrs.

Whenever you are about to start working put that phone into silent mode & turn every time-consuming app notifications off.

10. Take a break:

Don’t just work your whole day, just like your phone needs to be recharged after some time, so are you. Taking a break after doing an hour of work can help you to recharge yourself. And then get back on your work again, in this way your level of productivity won’t decrease.

11. Inspire yourself:

Listen to those who are already living your life like you wanted to have. Learn from them what they’re doing right & try to implement that learning in your life. Listen to their podcast, watch their documentary videos.

If you surround yourself with high achievers who take instant action, constantly growing, you’ll also get inspired to do the same & your productivity level will increase.
