History of Shakti Peeth and Kamakhya Temple
This starts with Sati’s father who invited Sati to a Grand Yagna. Sati asked Lord Shiva to attend the Grand Yagna but Lord Shiva denied to go to the Grand Yagna.
Sati went to attend the Grand Yagna to his father’s home after having a fight with Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva was insulted by Daksha Sati’s father. Sati was not able to hear her husband’s insult and committed suicide, she jumped to the fire.
Lord Shiva was very angry and placed Sati’s body to his shoulder and started doing tandava. Tandava is considered to be the dance of destruction.
Lord Vishnu used his Chakra to Cutdown the dead body into 108 parts to cold down Lord Shiva by destroying the world all the body parts fall and the places are called Shakti Peeth.
Sati’s womb and vaginal part fell here that’s why Kamakhya Temple is so special. Kamakhya Devi is also known as bleeding goddess. In the month of June the Temple remains closed for three days, the goddess bleeds and menstruates.
Some people also believe that Lord Shiva and Sati had a romance with each other here. In Sanskrit ‘ kama’ mean’s lovemaking that’s why this temple is named as Kamakhya Temple.
