Tourist places in Sikkim

Gangtok

It is worth saying that the most beautiful Hill station in northeast India is Gangtok. It is the largest city of Indian state Sikkim. Gangtok is situated at 5410 ft (1650 m) from the sea level. It is said that Gangtok is the best Tourist places in Sikkim.

In Gangtok, there is a cool climate because it is located in the eastern Himalayan range with a very cold temperature. Gangtok looks more beautiful in the winter seasons because of the snowfall. It is said that Gangtok is the tourist centre of the Sikkim Tourism Industry.

Gangtok is the cleanest city of northeast India with an average literacy rate of 89.33 per cent. If you ever visit in Sikkim, Gangtok and you miss the Ropeway ride, then you have missed the best and awesome view of Gangtok.

The 1km or Ropeway is of 7 min, and in this 7 min you will get the best view of Gangtok, and if the climate is clear, you will also see the view of Kanchenjunga.

MG Marg means Mahatma Gandhi Marg is the most important street of here and vehicles are banned in this street. In MG Marg Food and Cultural festivals are held every year. MG Marg is also famous for shopping and hotels. Peoples of here share their personal car to the tourist.

Famous in Gangtok

The most popular food of Gangtok is Momo. Football cricket end archery is the most popular sports in Gangtok. The Gangtok Paljor Stadium is a football stadium, and it has a seating capacity of 30,000, it means 30,000 peoples can enjoy the Football match as well as the nature of the Gangtok.

International Flower Festival is also organised in Gangtok in the month of March. The tourist comes from all over the world.

I made a big mistake that I planned a 2 days trip to Gangtok you don’t make the same mistake that I did, If you are visiting Gangtok plan at least 6 7 days trip otherwise, you will miss some awesome places. 

International Indo-China border

The International Indo-China border is a must-visit place in Gangtok. It requires a permit to visit there and the permit can be obtained easily in Gangtok. The foreigners are not allowed only the Indians with the permit are allowed to visit here. Here you can see the Chinese soldiers as well as the trucks passing from India to China. Tsongmo Lake is also visible on the way to the International Indo-China border.

Best Time to Visit Gangtok

October to mid-December and March to May are the best months to visit Gangtok. In January and February, the snow falls and the temperature remains very low if you love and want to see snowfall you can visit in this month also. If you are visiting Gangtok for sightseeing, honeymoon, adventures and relaxation the summer can be the best time for you. So make your plan according to your choice. However, you can visit the Tourist places in Sikkim in any month of the year.

Zuluk

Zuluk is also known as Dzuluk a small village in East Sikkim. It is at 10,000 ft above sea level. Zuluk is a famous place for the tourist because of the view of the amazing Himalayan. Zuluk is also the most visited place among the Tourist places in Sikkim

Zuluk

You can see the Army jawans, jeeps and tents, the Army base is near Zuluk. Zuluk is a restricted area of East Sikkim, it requires a permit from the officials. A special permit is required to visit Zuluk, the permit can be made from a place called Rangli or it can also be made in Gangtok.

If you want the permit then you have to submit the following documents Passport or Voter ID card (for adults) Passport or Birth Certificate (for children below 18) along with one photo ID card (School ID or Aadhar Card) At Least 4 passport size photographs Photocopies of all the above mentioned.

Thambi View Point 

The Thambi View Point is at 112000 feet. Thambi View Point is the most visited place around Zuluk. There are 32 zig-zag roads to visit the Thambi View Point. The sunrise is the most beautiful; the sun rises from the heart of mighty Mountain Kanchenjunga. 

Kupup Lake

Kupup Lake is located at 14,000 ft from the sea level. It is also known as the Elephant Lake because the shape of the lake is like an elephant. There is also a Yak Golf Course nearby, it is the highest golf course in the world. Every year a water polo game is organised and it is the grand event in that area.

Lungthung

Lungthung is around 4km from Zuluk. It is a glossy green tea estate with rugged mountain edges. Most of the people here are those who escaped from Tibet if you want to listen to the stories of the people who stay and have a cup of tea with the people and enjoy the green glossy mountains. If you are hungry then you can have your lunch here.

Tukla

Tukla is also known as the Battle of Tukla, which is 4km from Lungthung. Here in 1903, a British Army force of Lt. Col Francis Younghusband attacked. Many Tibetan soldiers died here. That’s why it is a memorable place and people pay tribute to the soldiers. 

Menmecho Lake

Menmecho Lake

Menmecho Lake is about 1-hour drive from Zuluk. The lake is in between the mountains of Jeep la. There is a house beside the lake where you can spend a night.

Keep in mind

Carry some woollen clothes because it is very cold here. Please carry water bottles because there is no shop in that area. If you have any problem then carry the medicines of your own there is no pharmacy shops here.

Carry enough money because there is no ATM and no card payments. Data connectivity is very poor so you can carry two sim cards with different service providers to have more options. Do not trust locals with advice or with any kind of business transactions.

If you have breathing issues, try and not stay in Gnathang Valley. Do not expect modern facilities. Beware leeches and other insects, especially in Pine forested areas.

Khangchendzonga National Park has been termed as India’s first mixed world heritage site by UNESCO. It is home to 18 glaciers, lakes, mountain peaks, waterfalls, 18 sub-forest types, 124 species of mammals and 300 species of birds.

Sikkim borders with only West Bengal in India. It has an international border on the remaining sides by Bhutan in the east, Nepal in the west and china in the north.

 Mount Kanchenjunga

Sikkim is home to world’s largest mountain peak, Mount Kanchenjunga. The main mount which lies on the border of North Sikkim is 8,586 meters in height. 

It has many hot springs known for their medicinal properties, most important ones are Reshi, Yumthang and Ralang. 

Sikkim is India’S first and only open defecation free state. 

It is India’s least populated state with a population of 610557 inhabitants according to 2011 census. 

Sikkim has a special seat called, ‘SANGHA’ in Sikkim legislative assembly to look into the ecclesiastical affairs of the state  

It has a 108-foot tall statue of Lord Shiva, 18 feet statue of Shive in hunter avatar and has a replica of 12 jyotirlingas spread around it and models of Chardham temples.

With almost 35 varieties of rhododendron found in the state, Sikkim is home to rhododendron forests along the Himalayan valley.
