Laws and Gameplay of Cricket-

In cricket, they coded the rules in The Laws Of Cricket. In which 42 laws was maintained and owned by The Marylebone Cricket Club since 1788 in London.

Rules of Playing Cricket-

Rules of Match Structure and Closure of Cricket–

According to the rules in The Laws Of Cricket when the match started both the team captains toss a coin to decide whose team will bat first and who will fields. Therefore we called this first inning.

There can be 2 to 4 innings depending on type of match. However one team bats and other team bowls and fields we called as 1^st inning and the teams change roles.

The 4 inning match is played over 3 to 4 days. The match of 2 innings completed in 1 day. They usually announced order of batsmen before the match but it can be change any time.

Each team has to score more runs by bating in allocated over. If the team does not make more runs than opponent team than it said to be ‘lost by x runs’ and if team makes more runs than opponent team than it is said to be ‘won by x wickets’.

The umpire has a power to abandon the match if there is bad light or rain in any form of cricket.

Rules of Bat and Ball in Cricket–

According to the rules in The Laws Of Cricket the bat is made up of wood (salix alba) which has the shape of blade with a cylindrical handle topped on it.

The bat should not be more than 38 inches in length and the blade should not more than 108 mm wide. There is no standard weight of the bat usually between 2 lb 7 oz and 3 ib.

Ball is of 22.9 cm in circumference which is made up of leather. In addition the ball has six rows of stitches attaching the leather shell of the ball.

The ball has a ‘seam’. The players polished the ball during the match and they can wet it with sweat or saliva which is legal this is usually done for more swing through the air.

Rules of Fielding in Cricket–

According to the rules in The Laws Of Cricket there are 11 fielders on the field, their position are determined on the tactical basis by the captain and bowler.

No fielder is allowed to field back of bowler and wicket keeper. However the fielding positions can be change any time between deliveries which are decided by the captain and bowler.

If any fielder is injured then the substitute is allowed to field but substitute fielder is not allowed to do bowling. If the injured fielder is fit to return in field then substitute fielder leaves the field.

During 2017 they updated the Law of Cricket to allow substitute to act as wicket – keeper.

Rules of Clothing and Equipment in Cricket–

According to the rules in The Laws Of Cricket protection of players is very important so wicket keeper and batsmen wear protective gear for their health and safety.

They are allowed to wear pads, batting gloves or wicket – keeper’s gloves for the hand, a safety helmet for the head and they also wear a box inside the trousers. The batsmen can wear extra safety things.

The player must wear long trouser, a collared shirt with short or long sleeves, cricket cap, woolen pullover and spiked shoes or boots to increase traction and safety helmet.

Women’s Cricket-

• During 1745 women cricket was first recorded in Surrey.
• After that in 1934 they played the first test match between Australia and England.
• They founded The International Women’s Cricket Council during 1958.
