Why choose Mechatronics engineering | Will it dominate after 2020?

When you search on the internet about engineering programs we often see talking about most popular branches like Computer science, Mechanical engineering, Electronics engineering or Information technology. But very less about courses like mechatronics.

But many colleges are now introducing new engineering programs which specialise in one specific category like Biotechnology, Mechatronics engineering and programs related to Electric vehicles technology.

Here I will discuss all about Mechatronics engineering, offered by many institutions and why you should go for it.

What’s here for me:

  1. What is Mechatronic engineering?
  2. Why choose Mechatronics engineering?
  3. Scope of Mechatronics engineering.
  4. Top colleges for Mechatronics engineering
  5. Syllabus in colleges for Mechatronics engineering.
  6. Career options in Mechatronics engineering.
  7. Getting admission in Mechatronics Engineering course?
  8. Frequently asked questions about mechatronics.

What is Mechatronic engineering?

What is mechatronics engineeing

Mechatronics engineering is the integration of Electronics and Mechanical systems. Moreover, they use computer science, mathematics, engineering concepts, telecommunications, sensor technology to design smart products or systems.

Almost any mechanical product you observe, you will find a mechatronics system. In fact, they are used in a variety of industries like manufacturing, communication, energy, medicine and much more.

Do you enjoy problem-solving and engineering activities? Can you work as a team member? Then mechatronics could be for you.

Why choose Mechatronics engineering?

Firstly, I suggest you to explore the courses of the institute where you will apply. What you may notice is that most colleges having mechatronics engineering have a lesser number of seats than other courses.

Also, the cut-off for getting admission in mechatronics is lesser than any other branch. Also, there is a misconception among students that mechatronics engineering doesn’t provide good job opportunities.

In fact, you will observe that this branch will become a new trend of the 21st century. As we all are observing the technology is developing and automation is the future. So, mechatronics will play an important role in automation technology.

The robots in mega factories for example: Automobile manufacturing, Food industry, Aerospace technology, even the wings of aeroplanes, self-driving cars, are all designed on mechatronic systems. So you can imagine how vast this field is.

Watch this video how automated robots working in AUDI manufacturing plant.

Presently, this branch is not so popular and is less competitive. Also, competition is less, the job prospects are good. So, you will land a job very easily in India and abroad.

Although many articles have been published in newspapers, magazines and many top-ranked institutions have predicted an increase in demand of this branch in future.

Scope of Mechatronics engineering

So, previously I have discussed some points on mechatronics and here I again force on saying that mechatronics engineering will dominate in future.

For example, industrial robots are the most appropriate example of a mechatronics system. As it is the integration of electronics, mechanics, and computing to perform daily tasks. Thus, you will find these highly efficient, automated robots in any manufacturing industry you visit.

These robots have increased production rate by a thousand times because of this, products are available at lower costs and companies are able to make more profits. So, the demand for this technology is increasing rapidly.

After completing the degree, you can work on different aspects like control systems, sensing, automation and robotics and also Artificial Intelligence.

Career opportunities in Mechatronics engineering

mechatronics engineers testing automated robots

Being an emerging field, this program presents numerous opportunities for the graduates and the demand is increasing every year.

Career opportunities such as:

  • Sensing and control systems.
  • Automation and robotics.
  • Design of subsystems for automotive engineering.
  • Transportation and vehicular systems.
  • Machine vision.
  • Nanotechnology.
  • Oceanography.
  • Medical mechatronics.
  • Structural dynamic systems.
  • Control systems for Rocket operations.

Also, there are many more career opportunities available, I have listed some of them. Further, if you do masters you are opened to more career options.

Not getting seat in Mechatronics Engineering course?

Now if you have decided to go with the mechatronics engineering course, but it’s not offered by your college where you are applying or the possibility is that the seats may be got exhausted.

What should you do now? Keep patience and look for other courses before their seats get filled, try to take admission in courses like Mechanical, electrical, electronics and communication, or computer engineering, which branch you love the most.

So which to choose?

Particularly, I choose Mechanical engineering as most of the subjects are similar to mechatronics and also you will not regret it. And after the completion of your degree, also you can pursue M.tech. in Robotics, Mechatronics or any other specialized field.

Also, you can check our blog on mechanical engineering in India in detail.

So check the colleges which are offering the courses you want to pursue and you complete the eligibility criteria of those colleges.

Make efforts to search each college website, what they offer, the eligibility criteria, and most importantly try to contact college alumni as many as you can, who have graduated earlier from those colleges. No one can better tell you than those graduates about the college you are applying for admission.

Conclusion

To be brief, from the past few years we have seen a huge demand for computer science and has grown rapidly, but in the future mechatronics can dominate then other branches of engineering.

Want to earn during your college years then check out skills which pay the most without college degree.

Due to rapidly growing technology, in future mechatronics will have major role in the automation industry than any other engineering branch.

So, Mechatronics engineering is an emerging field, and you have many pathways to pursue it as I have discussed above and at last plan your career carefully and enjoy the college life as this time only comes once.
