Till 1992, Only Male had the choice to serve the Nation by joining in Indian Army . But GIRL was not allowed .

But in the year 1992 , Govt. took a decision to have a work force which reflects Gender balance . Since then , Several ways have opened up for Girls in DEFENCE FORCES .

Then In SEPTEMBER month same year , INDIAN ARMY got it’s first girl officer named as PRIYA JHINGAN .

Girls are inducted as an Officer in THE INDIAN ARMY through SHORT SERVICE COMMISSION (SSC) .

SHORT SERVICE COMMISSION (Non-Tech) ENTRY FOR GIRL IN INDIAN ARMY

Through CDS exam , Unmarried GIRLS are invited only for OFFICERS’ TRAINING ACADEMY( OTA ) in  SHORT SERVICE COMMISSION (Non-Tech) . The vacancy is of 16 posts .

(The number of vacancies given above is tentative and may be changed at any stage by Services Head Quarter) .

CDS exam is conducted by UPSC ( Union Public Service Commission ) twice in a year as CDS – I & CDS – II .

SYLLABUS OF THE CDS EXAM

English (Code No. 01)

The main aim of question paper is to test the candidates’ understanding of English and use of words.

General Knowledge (Code No. 02)

General Knowledge including knowledge of current events .

Matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects .

It may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject.

The paper will also include questions on History of India and Geography of a nature which candidate should be able to answer without special study.

ONLINE APPLY FOR CDS EXAMINATION

Interested candidates can apply online using UPSC official website .

Candidate should have details of one Photo ID Card .

The photo IDs accepted are –

  • Aadhaar Card
  • Voter Card
  • PAN Card
  • Passport
  • Driving License
  • Any other Photo ID Card issued by the State or Central Govt.

The details of this Photo ID Card will have to be provided by the candidate while filling up the online form.

The candidates will have to upload a scanned copy of the Photo ID whose details have been provided in the online form by him/her.

This Photo ID Card will be used for all future references .

So the candidate is advised to carry this Card while appearing for Exam / Personality Test / SSB.

Candidates do not need to pay any Fee.

ADMIT CARD FOR WRITTEN EXAM

The selected candidates shall be issued an e-Admit Card three weeks before the exam .

The e-Admit Card will be available on the UPSC website .

It should be downloaded by candidates .

No e-Admit Card will be sent by post .

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process are as follows:-

Announcement Of Results (Written Exam)

The UPSC shall prepare a list of candidates who obtain the minimum qualifying marks .

The qualifying marks in the written exam is fixed by the Commission in their discretion.

Those who qualified in the written exam will be detailed for Service Selection Board Interview .

SSB Interview

Candidates must report for SSB interview on the date mentioned to them in the call up letter for interview.

SSB consists of Two stage selection process .

It is based on Psychological Aptitude Test and Intelligence Test .

All the candidates will be put to stage one test on first day of reporting at Selection Centers .

Only those who qualify at stage one will be forwarded to the second stage .

All those who fail to pass stage one, will be returned.

Medical Exam

Candidate selected by SSB will go through a medical test .

Medical exam is conducted by a board of service medical officers .

Those candidate declared medical fit wait for MERIT LIST .

Merit List

The candidates will be placed in the order of merit on the basis of the total marks .

The total marks includes both from the written exam and SSB tests.

The form and manner of communication of the result of the exam to individual candidates shall be decided by the Commission .

Candidates placed in merit list will undergo training .

TRAINING

Selected candidates will be enrolled as Girl Cadets .

Cadets will go through a course of training at the Officers’ Training Academy .

The training is for an approx. period of 49 Weeks.

On successful completion of training Girl Cadets are granted Short Service Commission .

They placed in the rank of Lieutenant From the date of successful completion of training.

NCC SPECIAL ENTRY FOR GIRL OFFICER IN INDIAN ARMY

GIRL-OFFICERS

Unmarried Girls  (including Wards of Battle Casualties of Army Personnel)  are invited for grant of Short Service Commission in the Indian Army through NCC special entry .

Note :-

Wards of Battle Casualties of Army Personnel  means Army Personnel  those  faced Battle  casualties specified as:-

  1. Killed in action.
  2. Died of wound or injuries (Other than self-inflicted).
  3. Wounded or Injured (Other than self-inflicted).
  4. Missing.

ELIGIBILITY FOR NCC SPECIAL ENTRY

Age Limit

Age should be between 19 to 25 years .

Educational Qualification

Degree of a recognized University or equivalent with aggregate of minimum 50% marks .

Aggregate marks includes marks of all the years.

Those studying in final year can also apply for this entry .

But they must have secured min. 50 % aggregate marks in the first two/three years or three/four years respectively.

 For NCC ‘C’ Certificate Holders

Candidates Should have a NCC ‘C’ Certificate with Min. of ‘B’ Grade .

They should also have served for min. 3 academic years in the senior Division/Wing of NCC.

For Wards of Battle Casualties of Army Personnel –  

NCC ‘C’ certificate is NOT required .

After short-listing , Candidates will get a intimation of center allotment via their email.

After allotment of Selection Centre, candidates will have to log in to the website and select their SSB dates which are available on a first come first serve basis initially.

Thereafter, it will be allotted by the Selection Centers.

Only shortlisted candidates will go through SSB interview at Selection Centers :-

  • Allahabad(UP)
  • Bhopal(MP)
  • Bangalore (Karnataka)
  • Kapurthala (PB)

Call up letter for SSB interview will be issued by respective Selection Centre on candidates’ registered e-mail id and SMS only.

Merit list will be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained by the candidate at SSB interview .

It also depending on the number of vacancies available .

Higher studies, previous marks etc have no role to play in the seletion .

Those in the merit list and who come within the stipulated vacancies and are also medically fit will be issued joining letters for pre-commission training at OTA, Chennai .

TRAINING

Selected candidates will be detailed for Pre-Commission training at Officers’ Training Academy (OTA) , Chennai  .

The Duration of training is 49 weeks .

Girl Candidates will not be allowed to marry during the period of training .

JUDGE ADVOCATE GENERAL(JAG) ENTRY FOR GIRL IN INDIAN ARMY

Unmarried GIRL LAW GRADUATES are invited for grant of Short Service Commission in the Indian Army for Judge Advocate General Branch .

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Age Limit

Age should be between 21 to 27 years .

Educational Qualification

Minimum 55% aggregate marks in LLB Degree (three years professional after graduation or five years after 12th exam) from a College/University recognized by Bar Council of India.

The candidates should be eligible for registration as an advocate with Bar Council of India / State.

GIRL ENTRY IN INDIAN ARMY THROUGH SHORT SERVICE COMMISSION (TECH)

Applications are invited from unmarried Girl Engineering Graduates and also from Widows of Defence Personnel for grant of Short Service Commission (TECH) in the Indian Army in all Arms/Services.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Age Limit

Age should be between 20 to 27 years .

For Widows of Defence Personnel maximum of 35 years .

Height and Weight

The min. height and weight for Girls is 152 cms and 42 Kg.

In case of Girls from the North East and hilly areas like Gorkhas, Nepalese, Assamese and Garhwalis, the height will be relaxed by 5 cms .

The weight is considered as per the reduced height criteria .

In case of Girls from Lakshadweep, the mini. height will be reduced by 2 cms.

Educational Qualification

Candidates who have passed the requisite Engineering Degree course or in the final year of Degree course are eligible to apply.

Thereafter, it will be allotted by the Selection Centers.

Only shortlisted candidates will go through SSB interview at Selection Centers :-
